A beautiful place for the beautiful people of South Tottenham

What is Tottenham like? search Google and you will get all sorts of answers, some, perhaps many, may not be so positive. Yes, we have lots of challenges, but whoever we are we can be certain that we are loved by God. No matter what's going on in our lives or in our community we can rely on God's unconditional love for each and every one of us.

This is at the heart of our Mission here at St Philip's; To bring the love of Jesus Christ to the people of South Tottenham.

As catholics in the Church of England, we beleive that God connects and communicates with us through the senses; we experience God in what we see, what we hear, what we smell, what we taste. Through these senses we experience God's love for us. This concept has been handed down through the history of the Church as "the beauty of holiness."

It is why we want to offer beautiful worship, in a beautiful church, for God's beautiful people.

Sure, we might not be as well off as other communities in England, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't aim to offer to God the very best that we can.

But it works both ways. We want to offer beautiful worship to almighty God in a beautiful church to show that this community of South Tottenham is worth having nice things, because we are worth it!

And we think that by doing so we can make a massive positive impact on our community, a community which does struggle with not feeling valued, not feeling that we are "worth it". We think that this corporate low self esteem has a direct link to some of our challenges around crime and anti-social behaviour.

Sadly, for too long, rather than St Philip's being a force for good, our Church building has compounded our problems. Our Church is a major landmark here in South Tottenham, yet for too long it has been unloved. For too long it has been a magnet for anti-social behaviour; fly-tipping, littering, drug and acohol misuse. Too long it has looked like the Church has been abandoned; that God has abandonded us!

We want this to change

We want St Philip's to once again be a place of beauty. A place at the very heart of the community. A place which can be used by ALL members of the community. A Beautiful place for the beautiful people of South Tottenham. A place we can all be proud of. A place where we know and can experience God's love for each one of us.

We have embarked on an number of projects that will renovate the Church building and outside areas: creating new meeting spaces for community use. New gardens for all the community to enjoy. A place where all sorts of community groups can use and call home.

To make our dreams a reality, we need your help. Check our the links below to find out more.
